1.
The individual and collective faith
In a coming age of understanding,
Reconciliation, harmony and peace
Originates from the gift which is
The uncommon habit and the joy
In each and every funny person.
Good humor connects
The beginning of what's unfamiliar
With the end of
What's familiar.
So let it be,
And
Raise your
Voice
In glee!

2.
Send in your
Story or poem,
And may every bullet
Fired in wartime
Help you compose
At least one more
Peace piece.

3.
A man with a gun
Is no fun
Unless it shoots
Only
Horse feathers.

4.
I sang a song once
And made an old soldier angry.
He cussed me out
And then he strode off
Alone
Into the vacant darkness.

5.
Saint Sebastian
Knew Cupid well.
Love consumed the man whole
And by the wonder
Of a hundred arrows
He bled to death
In sight of Christ.

6.
Follow your saint.
All the inspiration
Of modish tongues
Will soon be quaint.
Follow the cynicism
Of today
And dismiss all that is good!
Acrid writings are composed
To vanish
Like smoke from burnt wood.

7.
I stumbled and fell
Over a pebble.
Then I got up
And grabbed a boulder
And lifted it
High
Over my head.
Even the strongest man
May be brought down
By what he can't see.
This is the way
Young David
Made the feared
Goliath
Fall dead.

8.
Be grateful
The world is the way it is
And praise the Maker
Whose Radiance keeps beaming light
Out of a happy heart.

9.
I was despondent and confused
And felt there was no hope.
Then I heard a dog bark
And all the darkness of my night
Became filled with
The illumination of
Such a mighty sound!

10.
I made music all alone
And then the telephone
Rang.
Rather than curse at losing clarity
I let the melody flow
And kept on singing
The heart's dial tone.

11.
Feeling left out
Of the block party
Sam declared a truce
And rocked
The hardest of his
Hurt
Feelings loose.
Far from the
Street music
Sam is still
Walking
Along the roaring boulevard
Underneath
The smog-tainted
Full
Moon.

12.
When
It seems like
There's nothing left
But you alone
In your own private quarter
There is still
All you can see
In the mirror
Of your mind.
When
You feel deserted
And misery begins to
Overwhelm you
There is still
your last happy thought.
Bring it back then
And see how it
Shines!

13.
I'll be gone soon
From the drum and my singing.
You are welcome then
To come and take my place.
Do this and
No one near or far
Will fail to get
The message
Of what we are.

14.
Every bud
Is a disciple.
Every blossom is
A master.
When one becomes the other
Humanity perfumes
The entire
Garden.

15.
All that
Composing teaches
Is what you learn
By composing
Yourself.

16.
Homeless
Once
While walking towards the church
To hear the minister preach
I saw one bedraggled moth
Fluttering in a rain puddle.
At that moment
The world was
Filled with light.
An illumination came as
I thought of all the churchgoers
Who hurry by
Feeling no need
To help a stricken traveller
And just
Walk on by.
I spent that
Sunday alone
In my own world
Just
Listening to
The sun's
Core.
I couldn't help then
But think of Christ
Being struck down
After He raged so
Vehemently against
The stone blindness
Of cultured men.
