1. The gift of peace
Doesn’t come by passing laws
Or by making money.

The old social order is passing
As the gift of peace
Is accepted freely
By people
Making music together.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

2. Each heartbeat is a blessing.
The pulse of life isn’t sold
In a store.

The text that sustains
Is what issues from you
Freely without hesitation.

Just open your heart.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

3. Pen and ink are
Fire and smoke
And you get the message.

The signal’s coming
From everywhere.

4. To fall is natural.
You feel the supernatural
As you rise and try again
To walk.

By experiencing failure
And moving on and on and on
You work the miracle
Using the preverbal unconscious mind
Every little child relies on.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

5. Peace visions made verbal
First fill the eyes with light
And then echo through the world
Like rolling thunder.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

6. To those who live in darkness,
One must say,
“Whenever a person stands
In the light,
Don’t bash him.
Lay down your hammer
Or become a good carpenter.”

Let Christ come again
Without the razzle-dazzle.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

7. Butterflies teach the
Way of peace
By balancing their wings
In flight
And by placing their eggs
On many a leaf
And branch.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

8. Rains work to wet.
Brains work to get smart,
Not waste the world
Or wage
Word wars.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

9. Even in June
The carillon bells you hear
Sound like Merry Christmas
As
The breeze in green branches
And the crickets in green mansions
Sing your
Joy to the world!

10. Metaphorically
Every nerd’s a cell
In the great spider
Sitting on the
World Wide Web.

Realistically
The traditionally
Scorned low nerds,
Not the strong, muscular
Athletic lady killers
Are raising consciousness
Higher and higher
As they move humanity forward
In millions of sites
All at the same time
While catching and feeding upon
Parsed and pulsed messages
Caught in flight.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

11. Minds want to be surprised.
Jack-in-the-box writing
Pops open between a reader’s eyes.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

12. The cosmic warrior
Rarely smiles.
He’s both deep and shallow,
And your wit might not
Disarm him.

(contributor: John L. Waters)

Male Dancer

13. What’s both deep and shallow?
What’s both wet and dry?
What says no but means yes?
What baffles even the earnest seeker?

The worm and spider,
The cricket and the fly,
Know the answer already
And utter it continuously
Through the delicate movements
Of their legs.

Such movements
Do not speak, so we
Must learn to hear them
Through our muscles.

Zen’s heckling is a hen’s cackling
Hoo hee! Hoo hee! Hoo hee hee hee!
And golly gee!
